What do you need to travel to Brazil?

Brazil is a very sought-after destination. In 2017 alone, the country received over 6.5 million foreign visitors, attracted by its beautiful beaches and hospitable people. Upon arrival, tourists are usually amazed by the rich local cuisine, which is the result of the influence of various cultures, and capable of pleasing the most varied tastes.

This post contains some information that will help you organize your trip.

  1. Check if you need a visa

Citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland or the Mercosur, don’t need a visa. Citizens of the USA, Australia, Japan and Canada, in addition to the normal visa granted by a Brazilian consulate, can also obtain an E-visa online. Citizens of Mercosur’s member countries can enter Brazil carrying any valid official document.

If in doubt, call the Brazilian Consulate.

  1. Check the validity of your passport

Many people forget to keep their passports updated and, when they decide to travel, their document expired. Your passport must be valid for at least another 6 months and have two blank sheets.

  1. Minors

Minors – 18 years old or younger – who travel alone don’t need a permission letter to enter the country. The Federal Police, the agency responsible for monitoring those who enter and leave the country, assumes that, at the time of departure from the country of origin, every precaution was taken.

  1. Yellow Fever Vaccine

Proof of vaccination is not required it is, however, advisable. The yellow fever is a disease transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito and, if not treated in time, can lead to complications. If you never took the vaccine, try to do it at least 10 days before your trip to Brazil.
